# Introduction

Why we built AquaFlux & how it solves RWA pain points.

## The Problem Today - Can You Related?

Picture two investors. You might see yourself in one or both.

**a) The Bond Hodler**

> “I finally found a bond paying 8%, but my capital is frozen for 12 months. If rates rise, I’m stuck. Want to exit early? Good luck finding an OTC buyer and waiting days to settle.”

**b) The DeFi Degen**

> “Everything is liquid and instant, love that. But the yields swing with token prices and farming incentives. I can’t plan cash-flows, and there’s zero protection if the protocol blows up.”

Both profiles face a trade-off:

* **Certainty vs. Flexibility** — Bonds give predictable coupons but zero agility. DeFi gives agility but unpredictable returns.
* **Visibility vs. Risk** — Traditional bonds hide default risk until it's too late. Many DeFi yields hide smart-contract and market risk behind flashy APYs.
* **Locked vs. Liquid** — You can have stable income or instant access to your capital, but rarely both.

If any of this sounds familiar, you already know why we built <mark style="color:$primary;">**AquaFlux**</mark>.

## A Trillion-Dollar Problem <a href="#a-trillion-dollar-problem" id="a-trillion-dollar-problem"></a>

The global bond market is worth over **$140 trillion**. Meanwhile, the current RWA (Real-World Asset) market on-chain sits at roughly **$36 billion** in total value locked — a number that has doubled since 2025, but still represents a tiny fraction of what is possible.

Industry projections suggest **$16 to $30 trillion** in assets could be tokenized by 2030. Even capturing just 1% of the global bond market would mean **$1.4 trillion** flowing on-chain, roughly 10x the entire DeFi liquidity today.

The demand is real. The capital is there. So what is holding things back?

### RWA 1.0: The Photocopier Problem <a href="#rwa-10-the-photocopier-problem" id="rwa-10-the-photocopier-problem"></a>

Most of today's on-chain bond products work like a photocopier. They take a real-world asset and create a 1:1 digital copy. Same asset, same risk, same boring "hold-to-maturity" fate.

That is useful for settlement and record-keeping, but it does not unlock new value. You still cannot:

* **Exit early** without finding a willing buyer off-chain
* **Separate the safe part** (principal) from the risky part (default exposure)
* **See who absorbs losses** when something goes wrong
* **Combine bond components** with other DeFi strategies

Putting an asset on-chain is just the beginning. **The real game is making it into a market.**

### What We Actually Need: RWA 2.0 <a href="#what-we-actually-need-rwa-20" id="what-we-actually-need-rwa-20"></a>

The bond market does not need another photocopier. It needs a **refinery**.

Imagine crude oil. 100 years ago, people burning it raw for heat. Then someone invented the refinery. The same barrel of crude oil became gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, plastics, asphalt and serve completely different markets. Each product finds its own buyers. The total value of the refined products exceeds the crude oil you started with.

That is the leap from RWA 1.0 to RWA 2.0. Not just digitizing assets, but **structuring** them — breaking them into components that each serve different investors with different risk appetites.

That is exactly what AquaFlux does.

## Our Solution: AquaFlux

From **Tokenization** to **Structuring**
